When children first start school in Reception, it’s all about settling in quickly and feeling happy and safe so that good learning can take place.

It’s also about learning to feel part of our wider school family – but this can be a bit scary at first, when everything is new!

Our Reception children are like little Seedlings, who need nurturing with tender loving care! So we ask our Year 6 children to act as Gardeners to give extra support and nurture.

When our new Reception first visit our school on their induction day in June, they receive a personal welcome letter from a Gardener in Y5.

This relationship will blossom further when the Reception class join us in September and their Gardener meets them, plays with them and shows them around school.

We hope these relationships will grow and flourish throughout the remainder of our Gardeners’ final year at St Gabriel’s, giving their appointed Seedlings time to establish firm roots to grow and produce fruit of their own.

Year 5

There are lots of new houses being built right next to the school and it’s affecting animal habitats right outside our windows. They need to try to replace the habitats if they are being destroyed. Builders need to understand that.
