Intent Statement
At St Gabriel’s, we strive to give all children the opportunity to learn and develop key mathematical skills which they can apply to everyday life. We aim to instil a resilient attitude to Maths, to ensure children feel confident to apply their skills to a range of different contexts across the curriculum and beyond. To support this we use the ‘White Rose Maths’ scheme of learning as a basis for our maths planning and delivery.
In Early Years, children will develop a strong grounding in number, providing the necessary building blocks to excel mathematically through the Mathematics area of learning.
Intended Impact
During the children’s learning journey at St Gabriel’s, our intended impact of the Mathematics Curriculum is to ensure that children:
- become fluent, accurate and confident when applying mathematical skills to a range of contexts
- be self–motivated and resilient, developing skills that allow them to make mistakes and learn from them
- have the opportunity to engage with mathematical concepts in the abstract, in a real–life context and in legitimate problem–solving activities
